Hooked on Family History

Someone asked for a family history lesson today.  Of course, I complied!  She's practically a professional and found individuals to take to the temple! It was fun to do a happy dance or two with her.

She's hooked, just like me! Family history is fun and rewarding. We are becoming part of Elder Neil L. Andersen's #TempleChallenge! He said, "I want to challenge each of you to set a personal goal to help prepare as many names for the temple as baptisms you perform in the temple."

I also love this scripture from The Book of Mormon:

"And thus my father, Lehi, did discover the genealogy of his fathers. . . . And now when my father saw all these things, he was filled with the Spirit.” 1 Nephi 5:16-17

I know that we invite the Spirit into our lives as we try our best to complete our family history. So, join us!

Rough Knees

Does anyone else have a little boy who wears through the knees of his pants like nobody's business??  Hyrum blew out his knees on his fifth pair of pants in two months. Two of those pair were brand new at Thanksgiving!

Does anyone have luck with a particular brand of pants in this regard?

On the bright side, this boy sure knows how to play! He can't get enough of it. It's not a rare thing for him to cry at the end of the day because "the day was too short and I wasn't done playing!" I'm so grateful that we are going to homeschool and he can learn as he plays! He's been playing tornado ever since we learned about them and he often reteaches me about them as he does so.

Loving our Sydney

My sister, Sydney, moved in with us! And, oh! How wonderful it has been! She has only been here a short while, but so many good things are happening.

My kids adore her and she is a big help around the house. I'm ok with sharing bathroom cleaning responsibilities!

We are focusing on health and fitness and it is so much more fun with a buddy. We are eating better, trying new recipes, and exercising every day. It has been wonderful. She has to go to early morning seminary, so that gives me a good reason to get up and started with my day.

She's got lots of things going well for her, too! She's making new friends, got a job, is seminary president, second counselor in the Mia Maid/Laurel class, and I got her hooked on indexing!

We love having her here. It's going to be a great adventure.

Just a Rotten Stinker

I decided to take Ellie in to see if she had an ear infection today. It would be nice to have an explanation for why she's been a terrible sleeper that last little while. But alas! My pediatrician's office was destroyed in the tornado, so we had to go to their other office out in Forney.

Forney is like 30 minutes away. Thirty minutes that lasted forever...thirty minutes drive, plus waiting room time, plus a $15 copay to find out that she does not have an ear infection.  Sigh. At least we know she's just a rotten stinker.

And then, I decided I could get myself home and drive for five minutes in the wrong direction with a crying baby before I realized we weren't headed home. So we turned around and she cried the entire 40 minute drive home. Just keeping it real for you, folks.

On a positive note, Sydney kept my bigs home for me. I also have a rocking chair, so we can rock the night away...again.

New Spectacles

Hyrum got to pick out new glasses a few weeks ago. He was excited to FINALLY go pick them up yesterday.

They are red, his favorite color. In addition to new glasses, he needs to start patching his eye for a short time each day to strength his weaker eye.

We sure love him!

Six Flags and Friends

Hyrum didn't hesitate to shout for joy when I asked him if he wanted to go to Six Flags with friends this morning. A handful of us took advantage of the season pass sale and today was the first day we were able to go together! Thanks, Kristen, for the fabulous idea!

It was fun having four adults (Sydney counts!) to take turns with the kids. It allowed the big kids to ride some of the bigger rides! Hyrum tried out two new roller coasters today and couldn't get enough of them! Lindi rode the Mini Mine Train four times! She also braved the swinging ship again (at her request) and scream-giggled the entire time! That moment by itself made my day!

Thanks to Husband, who let us go without him (while he was working). We had so much fun!
