Slackers
I wish we could say we are slackers...that we lie around eating delicious green enchiladas and peanut butter cookies all day while watching movies...but I can't...
We eat green enchiladas once a week (not including leftovers) because they're so good--Tony's favorite. I made peanut butter cookies last week. We definitely ate too many but I did exercise some restraint and sent a large portion of them with Tony to church. The young men finished them off. We do like movies and bought some really awesome ones at Blockbuster for very cheap, but we don't watch them everyday. We watch them maybe only once a week, if that...
We've been so busy! I'm taking 18 credits this semester and they're not easy classes. Tony is still looking for a job. This includes job fairs, luncheons, and workshops, as well as filling out millions of online applications. I'm still working at the hospital...not much, but a couple hours a week so that I can keep my job and so we can have a little bit of income. Tony has also been called as the 1st counselor in the Young Men's Presidency in our ward. He is so excited. We both attended multiple activities for youth conference this past weekend and we really enjoyed it...
Although we're busy, we still do our best to have fun. We love to hike. We've tried out a few new trails and have really enjoyed the physical activity it affords us. It also gives us a great chance to talk. We also went and fed the ducks at the park near the church. "Seriously?" you say. Seriously! It was so fun. Ducks are weird little animals...
Pictures to come shortly! Until then...back to the enchiladas...

64 Things We're Thankful For
"It frustrates me that..."
"I hate how..."
"I wish..."
We've been married 5 weeks and 2 days and life couldn't be greater. Why are we complaining?! Well...as much as I hate to admit it, Tony and I threw ourselves a pity party yesterday. As we made dinner and ate we took turns venting our frustrations and expressing those things we wish were different. It was a good day for a pity party. Do you know why? It's because Monday night is Family Home Evening night! So, after we cleaned up dinner our itty bitty family sat down in our itty bitty family room for FHE #6. We sang Hymn #4 "Truth Eternal" and had an opening prayer and then had a most wonderful lesson on faith. As we discussed our faith in our Heavenly Father, faith that he would bless us with those things that we need I realized the mistake we had made. We had so much to be thankful for and we were throwing a pity party! How could we expect the Lord to bless us with more when we weren't thanking Him for what He had already blessed us with. So we made a list of...

Honeymoon in San Antonio
We don't have wedding pictures yet - other than the ones we linked to in the last post. But we can share a few from the honeymoon in San Antonio.
Of course we have to start with the Alamo.

We took this one outside the Alamo. It's a super old live oak.

This is at Fort Sam Houston. Milton is my grandfather. His wife (Grannie) and daughter (Charmayne) are buried with him in that grave. That cemetery is quite a sight. The headstones seem to go on for miles.

This is the belt buckle that I wear. The logo was Grandpa Brown's division logo (Second Infantry). Some of his experiences are listed. He was part of D-Day plus 1. If I read history right, that means he helped storm Omaha Beach. It is amazing I am even here.

Jeri Lin and I took some time one morning to do some temple work at the San Antonio Temple. This is one of my favorite temples. Partly because of some of the experiences I have had there. My parents, Whitney, Kemp, and I did the temple work for Grannie Brown and were proxies for her sealing to Grandpa Brown. My dad's family was finally sealed together. The day we were there would have been Grannie and Grandpa's 67th wedding anniversary. They were originally married at Fort Sam in 1945, the end of WWII.

Our resort hotel was amazing. This is probably the nicest bathroom I have ever seen in a hotel.

I really liked their kitchen also. Neat colors. It was fun to cook together, too.

We had a great time in San Antonio. Except for the Riverwalk. It was drained for annual cleaning. Lame.
Just so it is abundantly clear to everyone: I LOVE MY WIFE!

Married!
HOLY COW!
So we made it. Jeri Lin flew to Dallas for two weeks before Christmas, all my family (Mom and Dad, Whitney and Kemp, and us) all flew different airlines (and times and airports) from Dallas to Phoenix, we got married in the Mesa Temple on Saturday, January 2, 2010, we spent a few days in Scottsdale for the honeymoon, then finished off the honeymoon in San Antonio, flew to Dallas, picked up my truck and stuff, rented a trailer, drove to my house in Bryan to get the rest of my stuff, drove another 1000 miles to Arizona, and now we are mostly moved in to an apartment in Tempe. Whew!
Take a look at a few of our wedding pictures here at our photographer's webpage. We haven't seen the rest yet, but we really like the pictures so far. Oh, and go check out Whitney's blog, because they have a few nice pictures up also.
It's been non-stop busy around here but we promise to have more about the Temple, honeymoon pictures, and apartment pictures within the next several days.

Teaching and Leading
Our generation has been challenged over and over to take a leadership role in the "return to virtue." No one person can grab modern culture by the horns and reshape it. Not even Hollywood can do that instantly. But a million small choices made by individuals can do what looks impossible. And the fact is, everyone is a leader.
My mom is a veterinarian and shared an interesting insight on leadership. When clients bring pets and kids to the clinic for a check up, the pets and kids often have similar behavior. If the pet is crazy and off the wall, so are the kids. If the kids are quiet and watching and listening, so are the pets. Those pet owners and parents may not realize it, but they are exhibiting leadership. Somehow, the choices they make brings out a certain behavior in their pets and children. Everyone is a leader whether they know it or not.
If people realized the impact their decisions had on the world around them, they could make conscious choices to improve the lives of everyone they interact with. Everyone can be a better spouse, a better friend, better at work, better at community involvement, and better parents.
Teaching our children the gospel of Jesus Christ is one of the most important ways we show leadership. Mosiah and Joseph Smith taught the importance of teaching children. The Family Proclamation is so right in that the worst problems in the world result from the breakdown of the family.
The best way to lead the world is to set an example. President Harold B. Lee stated, " I say to you Latter-day Saint mothers and fathers, if you will rise to the responsibility of teaching your children in the home...the day will soon be dawning when the whole world will come to our doors and will say, 'Show us your way that we may walk in your path.'"
